Attitude-free, bohemian Faubourg Marigny bar with funky thrift-store decor. The pool table is played by some of the coolest sharks in town, and there's a superb, eclectic jukebox. Popular with a youngish set, which includes visitors staying at the guesthouse upstairs.

Snake and Jake's Christmas Club Lounge

Dilapidated uptown bar, with perennial Yuletide decorations fading in the gloom. Nothing much happens before 2am, when it fills up with a jubilant local crowd of musicians, journalists and students.

Top of the Mart

The world's largest revolving cocktail bar, on the 33rd story. Though you pay over the odds for a drink, the ambiance is appealingly kitsch, with tired red and gilt decor and bored waitresses. Each rotation takes 90min; the views are superb.
