The BIG EASY - New Orleans!
1st Oct 2004

New Orleans had quite an inauspicious beginning. Though founded by French Creoles, New Orleans actually began as a crude settlement beset by hurricanes, floods and hostile Indians. Today it is one of the most visited places on earth because of its festive environment.

Other than the Mardi Gras season - New Orleans offers plethora of activities for enjoyment. Visit the wonderful Audubon Zoo, a great place for families to visit. The zoo has a tremendous number of exhibits, including a Louisiana Swamp, tropical-bird house, butterfly exhibit, flamingo pond, sea lions, and white tigers. The Carousel Gardens is an explicit theme park offering swaying roller-coaster rides and tons of fun and excitement.

Stay at one of the many mega hotels in New Orleans at your service. The Lafayette Hotel on Saint Charles Avenue is a historic landmark building built way back 1916. Its elegant facilities in the guestrooms boasts classy comforting atmosphere. The hotel also offers Jacuzzi suites to the guests. The Empress Hotel is an eco-budgeted hotel ideal for the guests looking for prolonged stay in New Orleans.

People, its time for Mardi Gras!
22nd February 2003.

Its that time of year again when the whole of New Orleans immerses itself into non stop revelry and non stop excitement. The festival is sassy, vibrant and so colorful that it leaves you yearning for more! Over the years Mardi Gras has come to symbolize 'throws', 'parades' and 'balls'. We tell you the essential stuff you need to know about Mardi Gras.

Throws - Throws represent the traditional practice of throwing trinkets to the crowd by the parade participants. This practice started way back in 1884, and today the medallions and doubloons have come to become collector's items! These colorful doubloons contain the image of the Krewes emblem on one side and the parade theme on the other. Pearl beads and stuffed animals are some of the other trinkets that the Krewes throw out to revelers. The stampede that ensues to collect these medallions and doubloons - 'throws' is worth watching. Veritable bedlam describes it best!

Parades - Thought many krewes take part in the parade it is 3 krewes that take center stage every year. The Krewe of Bacchus that was formed in 1968 presents one of the most anticipated parades each year.  Bacchus the Greek god of wine has frequently been portrayed by leading celebrities of the time. This years reigning Bacchus is Luke Perry. The Krewe of Bacchus is known for its large floats and entertainment akin to that found in Vegas! The Krewe of Zulu is another eagerly anticipated krewe parade. Formed as early as 1909, their king marches with a lard can for a crown and banana stalk as a scepter. Over the years the Krewe of Zulu has grown in popularity and appeal as its celebrations are very colorful!. Of all the myriad throws in their parade, the coconut throw is the most eagerly sought after throw
